Canadian Stocks Advance After Shale-Gas, Potash Acquisitions

Bloomberg.com reports that Canadian stocks were up today, driven in part by natural-resource stocks on news of acquisitions.

Potash Corp. rose 1.8 percent to C$142.51 after Uralkali, Russia’s largest potash producer by market value, said it will purchase Silvinit. Potash Corp. Chief Executive Officer Bill Doyle told analysts on a conference call last week that a Russian merger would have a “positive effect” on the potash market
